Castro Scavenger Hunt

People walking on the Castro rainbow cross-walk

The Castro needs you! The Castro Street Fair Board of Directors has created a neighborhood scavenger hunt highlighting significant and historical facts about the Fair and the Castro neighborhood it celebrates. During this time when small businesses are hurting, bringing people to the Castro in a safe way is an important part of the Fair’s goal for 2020.

This fun, free activity kicks off on Sunday, September 27, and you can get your hunt on through Saturday, October 10.

Show us your smarts, and solve each clue to get to the next destination on the hunt route. Who knows, maybe you will see an old friend, meet someone new (at a distance,) or even win a prize. Please patronize a business, restaurant, or bar on your scavenger hunt journey!

Hope will never be silent

"Hope will never be silent" tshirt and sweatshit on Bonfire.

Harvey Milk started the Castro Street Fair in 1974 to encourage inclusiveness and togetherness, and one of his most famous quotes resonates today more than ever “Hope will never be silent”.

To honor those words, and to continue the tradition of a yearly Castro Street Fair merchandise, we created a Bonfire campaign with Tshirts and sweatshirts.

All proceeds of this campaign will be distributed amongst the beneficiary community organizations that have helped make the Castro Street Fair a reality in the previous years. It is for them that this fair exists, and we hope you donate and back the campaign to continue supporting them.

All proceeds will go directly to the following community organizations:

  • Bears of San Francisco
  • Buen Dia Family School
  • Castro Community on Patrol
  • Castro Country Club
  • Centro Las Olas
  • Haight Ashbury Community Nursery School
  • Imperial Council of San Francisco
  • Instituto Familiar de la Raza
  • McKinley Elementary PTA
  • Most Holy Redeemer Church AIDS Support Group
  • Queer Life Space
  • San Francisco Boom softball team
  • San Francisco Spikes
  • The 15 Association
  • The Family Link

Share your memories of the Castro Street Fair

We may be apart this year, but we'll always have our memories. Share you memories of the Castro Street Fair!

We may be apart this year, but we’ll always have our memories.

Since its founding in 1974 by Harvey Milk, the Castro Street Fair has celebrated the joy and diversity of our community, and that won’t stop even though we may be physically apart.

Today, we are kicking off our Share your Memories campaign. We encourage all of you to post your past pictures of the Fair on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Include the year, what you were doing, tag your friends, share your hopes for the future, mention us and include #castrostreetfair hashtag.

Harvey Milk famously said “hope will never be silent”. Neither shall we. Leading up to what would have been 2020’s Castro Street Fair on Sunday, October 4, we will be posting our own archival photos, reposting the best photos from all of you, and announcing some fun activities.

Make sure you’re following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up-to-date on what’s happening! In the meantime, share your memories!
